RAYNES PARK VALE 3 - 1 ASHFORD

A truly awful display by Ashford, full of mistakes and stray passes, giving the ball away all to often

to a team that looked more up for the game than Ashford did, and Ashford inevitably paid the price

by handing the match to Raynes Park 3 goals to 1.

It became obvious after the second goal went in that our midfield was being over-run and needed to be beefed up and Dan Fleming as the lone striker was not working, things improved in the 2nd half with the introduction of Coner Moody (midfield)  Phill Osuhor (up front) and Kieran Wright(defence) we hit the post twice and rattled the crossbar but it was to late and the damage was done, why Coner and Phill were not used from the start I do not know.

For me Ashford`s best player and man of the match was Jack Beadle with his wing play and willingness to run at Raynes Park to try and make something happen was the only bright spot in a dreadful performance.

What has happened to Mark Bitmead is he still injured? we need him upfront with Dan or Phill we can`t afford to many games like this if we want to get out of this league , we are now 7 points adrift of Cove.

It`s Windsor on Tuesday , so put this game behind us and mark it down as a bad day at the office and let`s get back to our winning ways.

Our team have been outstanding for the season so far but yesterday we " weren't at the races". Despite not having Mark Bitmead and Elliot Jones in the team, we still had the players to win the match.

I have noticed that we play our best football against teams who play like us, neat football out from the back, but we struggle to defend against the quick ball. If the back four are going to play a high line, it is essential that forwards and midfield players quickly shut down the ball otherwise you end up with as in yesterday's match, Raynes Park knocking balls between the back four and Tyler, which are really difficult to defend.

We conceded two very early goals, the defending was really poor including not playing to the whistle for the first goal as the octogenarian linesman apparently missed an offside in the build up. We should have conceded a third before we got a lifeline when Dan was upended for what looked a soft penalty. Jack converted the spot kick and we lived in hopes of a game of two halves. We played better but when Raynes Park scored a header with 20 to go, it was game over.

Yes we did hit the woodwork( or was it ironwork? a couple of times but didn't really look like winning the match.

Oh well, a bad day at the office but we can put it behind with a win on Tuesday.

It was a poor game, one which we have to put behind us.

Yet again another club that hadn't catered for the travelling support that follow Ashford. Upon arrival no programmes (thanks to Steve Clark for giving us his copy), told only printed 20! Half-time, no hot food! I understand that we all have financial concerns, but what about speculating to accumulating?

As you said it was a bad day at the office from the lads but knowing a few of them I don't think it was for any lack of effort or passion. The 2 early goals were very similar and despite being good crosses into our box they were disappointing goals to concede. I thought after that we played reasonabley well in the first half nothing spetucalar but we were the better team playing up hill and got ourself back in it with a pen converted by Jack Beadle.

Second half we again had most of the ball but Raynes Park defended well on a pitch you can tell they knew how to win on and we never really looked dangerous apart from a few half chances. We made 3 changes at once to try and make a difference, Conor and Phil both came on and done okay but apart from a neat one two between Samad and Conor which led to a half chance there was no real impact and they scored again from another good cross into our box that we didn't deal with at the back post.

In terms of team selection I think all managers even at the top in the premiership pick there team on league form and our last league game v Badshot Lee I thought our starting eleven played well and it was a good result v a decent team, so would of been very harsh to drop anyone.

On to Tuesday night v Windsor a team who like to play and there will be a bit of pressure to bounce back but with the players we've got I would expect our passing game to be superior to there's on a much better playing surface that will suit our players a lot more then Saturday did.
