Kingstonian v Enfield Town

Most of us Towners would probably prefer to forget our opening home RPL match of the season, when Kingstonian were the visitors, and they thumped us 2-5, playing with ten men for most of the match, after we had taken an early lead.

It was certainly not what we expected, but three months on and 16 matches later, our league form has steadily improved, and we are now mid-table with games in hand, and only two points adrift of 9th placed Kingstonian, who we play at Kingsmeadow this Saturday.

Like ourselves, The Ks were beaten at home in the FA Cup by Eastbourne Borough. Since that defeat their home form has been somewhat erratic, losing to both VCD Athletic and Harrow Borough. But in their latest home match they beat Met Police 3-1.

Should be quite a match tomorrow. After two blank Saturdays, it is a great chance for Brad and the lads to show how much we have progressed since that disappointing reversal back in August, pick-up some precious points and climb the table.

Fingers crossed. Good luck everyone!

They sure do seemgee!

What a performance, what a result, what a difference three months makes! Don't know about revenge for that defeat in our opening game of the season, but an away win and three points is very, very welcome.

Well done to Brad and the boys, you have made a lot of Towners very happy on a damp, cold, miserable November afternoon. Brilliant!

Let's hear from all you Towners who got to the match today. What are your thoughts on the game?

No praise can be too high for the performance of the coaches and team yesterday. Every one of the players gave 100% and defended, for the most part, from the front. It was the running and defending by the front men that put K's off their stride.

A special mention must be made of Captain Kirbs and Doyle. Their partnership in the centre of the defence has made a difference in the last three months. They have an understanding (including goalkeeper Nathan) which produces a solid back four and allows Jordan and Joe/Tyler to get forward.

Stanley playing in front of Doyle and Kirbs gives solidity in the spine of the team. When he first came to the club you could see the ability but he didn't seem to know what his role was, he does now.

A very well done to Brad and the boys.

Echoing what Steph has said, the defence has been amazing this season. Sure there has been the odd error, but they just look like such a solid unit. It's not just the defenders, but the whole team running and chasing back to help out.

As an example, the league last year after 18 games (the 18th being the 6-1 thrashing at Leiston):

P    W   D     L      F     A       D   Pts

18   3    3     12    23   49   -26   12

Now, what a difference keeping things tight at the back:

P    W   D     L      F     A       D   Pts

18   8    3     7     26    25    +1    27

Not many more goals scored so it just shows the value of solid defending by the whole team. Also worth noting that 12 of these goals against were in three matches all at home versus K' (2-5), Wingate (2-3) and Maidstone (0-4).
