Cobham FC

Recommended Posts

A right old ding dong appears to be going on at Cobham.

Looking at the various twitter feeds it seems that they are folding or at least asked for a 2 week break from fixtures?

Can anyone clarify the situation?

From the midweek league bulletin.

Please be aware of the following statement issued yesterday by the League and sent to those clubs immediately effected:

This is to inform you that Cobham FC has advised the League that they are currently unable to fulfil fixtures.

Given that the likely alternative was to lose a club, the Management Committee agreed yesterday evening that Cobham be allowed a fixture break with immediate effect up to and including Saturday 22 November 2014.

The effect of this is that:

this evening's Premier Challenge Cup match, Cobham v Horley Town is postponed, and has been awarded to Horley.

The league fixtures, Chessington & Hook United  v  Cobham on Saturday 15 November and Cobham  v  Sheerwater on Saturday 22 November have been postponed and will be re-arranged for later in the season.  It is not possible to arrange an alternative match for Chessington this Saturday as every other club has a fixture but I am looking at the situation for the following week.

The Management Committee very much regrets the situation, especially in the case of Chessington & Hook who are already behind with their fixtures, but as put to the Committee, the only alternative was that Cobham would otherwise have withdrawn from the League.  They hope to use the break to recruit new players.

Contrary to reports that have sprung up on social media, Cobham FC has not resigned from the League.

The situation does not affect Mole Valley SCR FC in any way, who play at Cobham.

ukfffc, now that rings a bell,Mayor of Simpletons,Adam Kings, remember him of this Forum Outfit.

Quite true Peter.

There has been some discussion regarding this gentleman in 'The Pub' forum on this site.

As Lazarus has explained on another thread, there are serious worries on Step 6, (Div 1), and there is to be a meeting later with the FA.

There is no doubt that clubs are struggling to survive, especially in the lower divisions.

Dorking FC were very fortunate to gain a new Cub management set-up which immediately resulted in massive sponsorship being gained, especially from one very large Dorking business.

The first-squad management team stayed loyal in times of severe troubles when others may well have 'jumped ship'.

My only major concern at the moment is that as far as I am aware, there is no 'work in progress' on the Meadowbank ground and pitch, which I understand is due to decisions still to be made by the local authority, (M.V.D.C.)  The worrying factor is that time is rapidly running down !!

  • 2 weeks later...

This is a strange situation, seems the ex Cobham players and coaches are playing friendlies whilst Cobham FC are still missing fixtures.

MVSCR looking for a friendly tomorrow at Cobham FC who are due to be playing a home cup game.

Perhaps the ex Cobham FC lads could supply the away team for this "friendly"?

I'm not taking sides here because I know none of the background, but there seems to be an element of  cutting one's nose off to spite one's face, and that could be either "side".

After the game all the characters involved in this farce could be locked in a room, and not let out 'til it's resolved, because its not just Cobham FC and its ex-players this is effecting, its the other clubs and the league itself.

All very sad, and sadly all familiar.

TSF. There should be an update this week re the situation at Cobham FC.

I really cannot say any more than that.

Why not Chris  ?  Is it all very 'secret-squirrel' ??

I must admit the situation does all seem a bit strange as it stands, as TSF said.

It is not my place to relate anything regarding a fellow club without their consent, especially this situation.

(and given what Cobham FC did to help our club recently).

It is a delicate situation of which the league are fully aware I believe and all will come out at the right time(s) I am sure.

You sure it's not just you that always anticipates the worse peter?? Lol...

I'm sure in time there will be a statement...The current administrator of Cobham's web site and twitter account is no longer involved with the club,so please ignore what's written on them!! The TRUTH will make far better and more interesting reading in good time!

I will add though that Cobham's future is probably brighter and more secure than a small minority would hope for!

Aside from any cloak and dagger theories, teams not fulfilling fixtures does nothing for image of the league they play in. They're either still up and running or they're not. It's all very well a league showing loyalty to member club, but when that member club does not represent the league positively how long do you allow that to continue?

Why the secrecy though? Obviously need players,so why not advertise somewhere,or co-opt a Team to get them through.

This is not only about players Smudge.

Very complicated issues which are being dealt with.

Prepare yourself for a fudge of a response to what seems a reasonable question, although probably later rather than sooner would seem par for the course.

People are bound to think something dodgy is going on, simply because of the timescale and deafening silence. With all that time to dream up an explanation, it's possible that if and when it is forthcoming not everyone may choose to believe it.
