easyfundraising for the AFCH Supporters Association

I've created this as a new thread so we have all the joining instructions, rules, tools etc at the top.  Can this be pinned please.  The old thread can be unpinned and drift away into the sunset.

-------------------------------------------------------

The AFCH SA is now supported by easyfundraising.org.  So, whenever you shop online at any of the retailers that are a part of easyfundraising the AFCH SA will receive a donation.  This donation varies per retailer but can be anything up to 10% of the amount spent in the transaction.  In most cases it's around 2-3%.

What is easyfundraising and how does it work?

easyfundraising is a shopping directory listing some of your favourite online stores including Argos, Amazon, Game, Toys 'R' Us, eBay, M&S, expedia, hotels.com, Asda, Debenhams, Currys and over 2000 others. Just use the links on the easyfundraising site whenever you shop online and, at no extra cost to you, we'll receive a free donation from every purchase you make. It really is that simple!

It’s completely FREE to register and you won’t pay a penny more for your shopping when you use the easyfundraising site. In fact you can even SAVE MONEY as many retailers offer discounts, special offers and even 'e-vouchers' exclusive to easyfundraising.

So, what do I need to do?

Firstly, you need to register ....

 - go to our easyfundraising page - http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/afchsa/ or click the "easyfundraising for AFCHSA" link on our website .. it's below the Welcome message.

 - click "Create an Account" at the top of the page.

 - when the window appears, select the green "I want to support a good cause" arrow

 - in the "Search for a cause" box enter "AFC Hornchurch" and select AFC Hornchurch Supporters Association when it appears.  Click the Go button.

 - on the next screen, against "AFC Hornchurch Supporters Association" click the green "Support this cause" button

 - you'll then be asked to provide your login details .. name, email address and password for your new account.  Click "Create my account"

 - you'll then be asked if you want to install the "Donation Reminder" toolbar.  You don't have to (click "No Thanks") but I have and it really does help

 - you'll then see the main screen with "Raising for AFC Hornchurch Supporters Association" in the middle

Then, simply search the retailers, shop as normal and raise money.

I have a memory like a sieve so I'll never remember to use easyfundraising.  What can I do?

At times we will forget to go via easyfundraising.  We all do it, we search Amazon, jump onto the site, buy stuff then we remember that had we gone via the easyfundraising page we would have earned some free money.  We feel bad, make a mental note not to forget next time then next time when we shop we forget again.  We feel bad .... and the cycle repeats

The answer is simple:  Install the "Donation Reminder" toolbar.

If you didn't install it as part of the account creation process, then it can be installed from your account.

Once installed ..

 - you get a toolbar at the top of your browser showing total raised by you and total raised for the cause

 - whenever you go to a site that is part of the easyfundraising retailer list a yellow bar appears asking if you'd like to "claim your donation" and a button that allows you to "Activate donation".  Click the button and you'll get a "your donations have been activated" message and a note on your toolbar that you are "Collecting donations on this site"

 - If your toolbar shows a "No donations available from this site" message then just key in the retailer in the easyfundraising searchbox on the toolbar .. sometimes the activation process doesn't work (for Amazon for instance) so just search anyway ..

We've currently raised around £190.  Since October 1st this year we've raised over £30 which isn't bad.  The potential however is enormous so please use it where you can.

Any questions, let me know.

In principal this is a good idea, and obviously free to do (apart from time)

But it obviously requires people to keep using the service otherwise if only a handful of people use it it's pretty worthless.

Other clubs like Newport & Wealdstone (I think) have used to a reasonable amount of success but their fan base is a lot more than ours and without knocking our fans, both clubs seem to be more in tune with supporting the club than ours on the whole.'

How will this be marketed, obviously we have this site, the website, twitter and the matchday programme but I think for it to work to a substantial level it probably needs to be pushed as much as possible and by as many fans/staff/players of the club as possible.

Rob - I don't think this is ever going to work to a substantial level.

eayfundraising has been running for a year and we still only have around a dozen members yet there must be 20-25 regulars on this forum alone who are fully aware of it and choose (for whatever reason) not to do anything to support it.  But, it is what it is, we can't force people to help the club!  We also recognise that not everyone buys online.

At the end of the day though it's mostly my time that's expended here and if a few people help then that's better than none.  If we raise £10 it's £10 more than we would have had.  Having said that we've raised £34.87 in the last 6 weeks or so which isn't bad.

Re marketing, we'll continue plugging here and when we are lacking website news we'll plug there too as well as Twitter.  People can tweet their donations directly (there's a twitter button against each of their donations) and if they mention @AFCHornchurch in there we'll re-tweet it for a bit of extra exposure.  It's also in the matchday programme and we've got a couple of flyers which we'll leave around the club and on the bar on matchdays.  Plus, I'll drop a note to all the youth managers, linking this thread, and ask if they'll spread the word via player parents etc.

The annoying thing is .. it takes 5 minutes to create the account and install the toolbar and after that it's done.  The toolbar (via the search button or notification) will ensure no donations are missed.  The potential here is enormous and money raised can make a real difference but .... hey ho !

Mate,I'm always in the camp that earning a pound is better than nothing so keep up the good work.

Just thinking of ways it could be marketed to achieve more than just a few quid.

It's obviously not easy when our fan base is considerably lower than many other clubs in the similar scheme but it is possible if people pull together and it's fresh in many people's minds

Agree Rob, anything is better than nothing .... one way or another we'll get this working.

Just an example .. Sharon was watching Neil Diamond tonight, said she'd like tickets for one of the O2 dates next July.  Never occurred to me to see whether ticketmaster was on easyfundraising but as soon as I keyed in the URL the toolbar kicked in, asked me whether I wanted to activate the donation (I did), bought the tickets and that's just earned us £1.13.

The easyfundraising blurb does state that on average you earn 5x more in donations if the toolbar is installed as it captures all the sites you'd otherwise miss ..

Installed the bar on my laptop and made two purchases.

Very easy and now I can't forget.

Nice one Annie.

See we've now passed the £210 mark (£56 since October 1st) and membership has risen from 12 to 20.

Great effort by all and keep up the good work !

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone know how this works with eBay?   From the links it appears to just be major "shop" sites, eg Electronics or Home&Garden rather than for general bidding.  Has anyone had a go on eBay?

Just pick one of the eBay links .. doesn't seem to matter which.

I used eBay-Fashion this morning when I bought my mailing sacks :)
