Hospitality, PA's etc

Recommended Posts

Just curious to know who you all think have the best match day hospitality. Plus simple things like music, announcements etc.

Some are awful. Some don't bother.

Sounds rhetorical to me?

  • 2 weeks later...

I received a very complimentary note from a club who visited us recently re their visit to Wibbandune.

They did add that not all clubs (so far) are up to the minimum expected standards though they did not name anyone.

We have visited 7 CCL clubs so far this season (one I missed) and I can't recall any complaints from our club re this issue.

I tend to agree with Smudge and Chris in principle, however having visited quite a few CCL grounds this season, some clubs DO have problems with PR announcements, music and the one gripe I have is the teams 'board' as to who is playing, this I find quite frustrating especially if there is no announcements....''so who's playing then I ask'' ? ;)

I may, but probably not, be the only one who has experienced the above, especially for ground-hoppers.

Personally, I believe the the CCL committee should make it a rule that every club has to have a 'team board' for every game because some of us are interested to know who's playing !

Lazarus any comment on this ?  I am sure this is easy to implement....please help us supporters, ground hoppers !!!!

We'd love to play some music at Ashford, but we're not allowed to because of constraints by our neighbours behind the Conifers end. Some years back, we played Chippenham Town in an FA Cup tie and received an irate phone call at half time, because Chippenham's drummer had woken up a neighbour who was on a night shift!

On the subject of white boards, Ashford definitely has one next to the tea bar, and sometimes a copy of the team sheet is put in a Perspex cover and placed on the tea bar hatch. I know The Wessex League stipulate compulsory white boards and gave them out free to member clubs three or four seasons back. The problem then is hoping teams keep to the numbers on the teamsheet. Twice this season in cup ties, we've played teams who've had several players' shirts differing wildly from those written on the team sheet.

It is standard practice for clubs to make team sheets available at Step 4 and above and I agree that it is something I would like to see us do, although an acceptable alternative is to put the teams up on a board.  These days if people want a copy of the teams, they can, of course, take a photo of the board.  I didn't receive much of a feed back when I circulated clubs about issuing team sheets recently.  In fact only two clubs responded.  One felt it was a good idea and the other felt they wouldn't have time to do it.

The use (or lack of) of tannoy systems in the Premier Divisions has also been discussed recently.  Premier Clubs with Grade F must have them but the wording in the relevant grading document does not make it clear that they should actually be used, although surely that is the intention.

All of these matters will be discussed by the Rules Revision Sub-Committee in due course and any approved changes will come into effect next season.

Most clubs have the teams & substitutions on their Twitter accounts these days.

Chris we pride ourselves in offering a warm welcome and good hospitality at Ashford Town but sadly some people don't have the manners to even come into the boardroom despite the invitation to enjoy the hot food provided.

That is disappointing when that happens and very rude. I can see the problems midweek when players have a long way to get home sometimes and, if that is the case, a polite request in advance that catering is not required for players should be the minimum, though quite what difference 5 or 10 minutes staying behind makes I don't know.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for no visiting committee member(s) to attend post match hospitality however!

My experience of visiting clubs above this level has seldom been good in the south east! :(

Thank you Lazarus for your prompt and positive reply.

Yes Swifty Ashford do have a team board which I witnessed recently

True bit not every club and to be honest very few do in my opinion.  Anyway I go to watch a game of football and not play around with my phone at matches  ;)

Well Lazarus, I for one would certainly welcome the compulsory ruling that EVERY CCL club must have a teams board or to show the teams in some form so ALL supporters and especially ground hoppers can identify who is playing.

Some clubs don't have the people to do these things or they just cant be bothered.

We at Hanwell Town FC put a team sheet up outside the club house around 40 mins before kick off and we also do team sheets (For Free) for people who want one we usually end up printing off about 20 team sheets per game.

I have been told that some clubs charge for a team sheet but I cant say that I have come across that yet!.
