Saturday 18th October Matches

the scarey thing about shelley being injured with blood pouring out of a head wound was that an ambulance was not called.HE had to drive himself to hospital alone and spend the evening in A&E embarrasing

Thats a disgrace in itself that they made him travel to hospital on his own back considering he could of been suffering from concussion! I sometimes wish clubs would look after players more, especially when it comes to head injuries! it's not just all about the money.

You're right Smudge. It's at such a low point that not only did we make him drive himself, we also fined him for not coming in the bar for sandwiches after the match.

Yet again you are all lacking any facts. No surprise there!!!

The facts that I have are that even though Shelley wished to be patched up & wanting to continue having suffered a cut to the back of his head from a stud, the management felt a head injury like this needed to be assessed properly and therefore took the decision to substitute him knowing full well it would put us at a disadvantage at 1-0 down with no sub keeper. I'd say that was quite a bold but correct move from Knaphill. As for driving him to hospital, I don't have the facts but knowing Shelley, he'd probably have opted to drive there himself and turned down any offers. At no point was Shelley concussed or blacked out at any point as I'm sure if he had, someone would have taken him to hospital.

As for team spirit Smudge, we have a great team spirit. Saturday was typical of us at Knaphill, we either win well or lose badly...... there's no middle ground.

Pete hasn't played or trained as a goalkeeper for over 4-5 years so I can't see how it's any different to a normal outfield player.

Be careful of criticising teams around you after a victory (against a makeshift keeper as you noted) though ITK. It might come back to nip you in the butt.

Also thinking about it, Pete Ruggles used to play in goal for Sandhurst Town so it is hardly like having a normal outfield player going between the sticks. Also recapping the game, he made at least 3 worldie saves, so in fact it could quite easily have been double figures.

I don't remember ever criticising anybody and I still say that asking somebody like Pete Ruggles to go between the sticks is a better option than somebody who has no previous experience. With a 3rd of the season still to go, there is a lot of twists and turns and we will certainly not get carried away.

Chris any chance of your in depth report being posted. The Dorking Sadvertiser reached a new low with theirs

Here you go

Wood's away day woes continued with this disappointing performance and result at Mole valley SCR who were, quite clearly, more up for the game and, ultimately, deserved winners.

And, despite a pleasant sojourn to the Running Mare pub pre-match, this turned out to be a miserable watch for yours truly and the rest of the visiting entourage.

Perace claimed a cross well following a decent passing move from the Commoners and White headed an Oliver free kick over after Ogunseye handled the ball. Caesar tried his luck from 40 yards, on the wind, but Dilley claimed easily as he did a Joe Mead free kick and White really should have netted at the far post but his effort went for a throw in! Holden was booked for a pull back on Caesar but Valley looked together as a team and Pearce saved a Smart drive. Okrior should have been booked for a pull back on Sotoniwa and the same player miscontrolled when in on goal before Fletcher shot lamely straight at Pearce. Wood had a great opening when Embalo set up Caesar but he delayed his shot and the chance went begging before Sotoniwa fired over from 25 yards. McCarry denied Wood before a good far post leap from Okrior saw his header sail wide. Embalo shot at Dilley before the whistle ended a rather poor half of football.

Davies produced a good nod back and White shot with the outside of his right foot at Pearce before the home side went ahead on 55 minutes. Oliver launched a useful free kick from deep wide left into the area and the ball flew into the net off Boye who was well off balance to clear. Okrior robbed the rather lax Boye but Smart shot feebly and Sam Mead tested Dilley from 25 yards before Fernandez and jackson replaced Taylor and Smart on 64 minutes. From a corner, Joe Mead cleared off the line from a Holden header while Jackson was booked for a poor tackle from behind but the home side were on top now with only sporadic moments to give Wood any hope. Okrior, working hard as usual, denied Harding while McCarry blocked an Ogunseye drive over the bar. Fernandez, in on goal, hit the post before Holden Volleyed over from 25 yards. On 75 minutes, Wilson replaced Davies for his Wood debut and in his brief spell, he showed some good touches and vision. Fernandez curled just wide and Fletcher saw off Ogunseye before Wise won a good tackle and shot from 35 yards a foot over the bar. Brimah replaced Caesar, another Wood debutant before Sotoniwa and Fernandez were red carded for incidents near the touchline, the referee, apparently, getting his decisions wrong as these were the wrong players involved I am told! A decent Wilson header set up Embalo but his effort summed up his day while Ogunseye, Wood's best hope, left Fletcher for dead before firing just past the far post from a tight angle. Holden, the home team man of the match, hit the post before Wise was booked for a trip on White, who was also booked!

So, just 2 point from a possible 21 on the road for Wood and a tough rematch with improving Badshot Lea next Saturday to come at home. First of all, it's a trip to The Arena on Wednesday for a Surrey Senior Cup tie with Croydon. We will need to improve vastly to progress!

i hope jonno your not including my post about ALL not knowing the facts???!! i said it was embarrasing shelley went to hospital alone-FACT,i could post more over his treatment etc but i wont

How the feck can anybody be left alone let alone drive themselves to hospital it beggars belief,i know when we were all at cove if anybody went to hospital Dave Coventry would always go with the player either he would drive himself or go in the ambulance if one was needed, somethings are far more important than a game and peoples health is certainly one of them,i hope Shelley is ok and maybe knaphill should learn from this unfortunate incident.

Pauls......

Is it fact that Shelley HAD to drive to hospital alone or did he choose to drive??

I dont know that facts so I'm asking whether you actually know the facts. It only becomes embarrassing and unacceptable if Shelley had no option other than to drive himself.

If Shelley chose to make his own way to hospital, then how the hell is it embarrassing??

And Pauls, if you feel there is more to say on the issue, feel free to PM me, id be interested to hear what you have to say.

Duncs duncs duncs......... you do spout some shite some times!!

"at cove if anybody went to hospital Dave Coventry would always go with the player either he would drive himself or go in the ambulance if one was needed"

I broke a bone in my ankle away to Horley Town while at Cove and also while Dave Coventry was physio.
I drove home and then went to hospital. No one went with me, no one drove me there. So you are not speaking the full truth are you??

It was my choice to drive home, it was my choice to not need my hand held by him. Should the management at Cove and Cove as a club be embarrassed?? No they shouldn't as it was my choice.

As i said, I dont know the full facts so I'll wait to hear from Pauls via PM or Shelley at training.

The one thing in all of this that Knaphill did get right was to substitute Shelley even without a keeper on the bench. Knaphill should take a lot of credit for that. It would have been easy to vaseline the wound, and to strap up his head Terry Butcher style. Thankfully Knaphill put Shelley's health before the team's interest.

johnno you are starting to p1ss me right off, a head injury requires the appropriate treatment not many people have died from a poxy ankle injury you plank, you were obviously not considered to be in danger, like you i too have had to take myself to hospital with injuries but not a serious one, stop trying to be wise and all seeing we all have to give into facts,i have spoken with Pauls today and the whole incident was not very well handled imho.

Duncs that's cheap coming from someone who p1sses everyone off. A head injury only needs the appropriate treatment if someone is concussed or loses consciousness. A minor cut to the head does not fall into that category. Knaphill did exactly the right thing by taking necessary precautions by getting him off the pitch & treating him. After that, I cannot comment as I don't have the facts. Pauls has not messaged me in fear of me outing him. I will speak to Shelley this week in person. Yet again, a minor incident blown out of proportion.

as it happens a few people at the club offered to take shells to the hospital in the end geoff the other keeper coach took him and i believe waited until shells partner arrived, so would be appreciated people got there facts right, but i suppose gossip is the highlight of some lives, the chairman said shells had no stitches just glued

Glad he is ok

Would it be fair to say that Shells was glued but some others are glueless?

I think any club with an under 18s could have their youth keeper on the bench every week. It would give them a good chance to get used to the environment and ease the nerves. They can carry out the warm up with the first choice keeper and then when an opportunity arises through injury or sending offs then it's better than sitting at home on the Playstation. Being allowed 5 subs every week helps also as you can accommodate youth players, having a defender, midfielder and striker with youth keeper and a good youngster on the bench would be ideal for any club I think.

Providing you can find a dedicated youngster in this era who would sacrifice earning £20 quid at Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsburys etc to sit on the bench for experience.

Even Conference North clubs go into game without a sub-goalie http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29691123.

I agree that even though he may not have trained as a goalie for 4-5 years, having that experience would have helped Ruggles.  When I first joined Sandhurst in the days where you could only name 5 subs for FA Cup matches (still 2 for the league), we would often have striker Graham Huddison double up as sub-keeper.
