Cockfosters 0-2 London Tigers

SSML Prem Att h/c 42 Adm £6 Prog £1

Cockfosters have, I suspect, surprised even themselves by being top of the league prior tolast night. Their luck ran out here as despite having more shots on goal, their finishing was wayward allowing the previously winless visitors to nick it with two well-taken 2nd half goals (66 & 80).

A small covered structure between the two dugouts has been erected since last season. The notorious pitch was good despite 36 hours of rain - perhaps 'Fosters won't have to play 32 games in Mar-Apr this season?

A more comprehensive report on this one again stolen by me from another Forum without crediting the original author:

Also at Cockfosters for only my second visit. With all the greenery around, you would think that you are at a very rural venue but then the ambience is dissipated by the traffic noise from the adjacent A road and you realise that it is very difficult to escape London suburbia on a midweek evening. The clubhouse has a rustic charm and a number of books for sale including a number of I Spy books that were remembered from a youth of many decades ago.

Overall had a degree of sympathy with Cockfosters after this entertaining contest as whilst their approach play was for the majority of time impressive, they could not stick the ball away into the goal. During the first half they created nearly all of the chances but were thwarted by poor finishing or the slightly unorthodox keeping of the visitors Luis Mendes De Brito. Blackburne should have put the hosts in front midway through the first half but after doing all the hard work creating space for himself and drawing the London Tigers keeper out of position placed his shot wide of the gaping net. Though soon after Blackburne was genuinely unfortunate when his shot was kept out by Mendes De Brito's trailing leg.

Cockfosters continued to dominate the second half but were unable to find a way through what was becoming an increasingly confident visiting defence. What was not expected though was for the visitors to take the lead which they did with a quick break out of defence and with the home defence a little unprepared Laraba slipped an angled effort wide of Styles much to the delight and no doubt surprise of the visiting entourage.

Controversy reigned soon after as Durnin was flattened in the visitors penalty area for what looked a pretty obvious penalty award, referee allowed an advantage to be played which ended with Carter-Allen skying his shot over the boundary hedge onto the adjacent cricket pitch. To the consternation of the home bench the referee refused to pull play back and award the penalty implying that the advantage had taken precedence. Led to the Cockfosters manager being sent off for disputing the decision.

In stoppage time London Tigers completed what had initially looked a most unlikely win with a second goal with quick break out of defence a low cross from Soussi on the right and a finish that you would expect to see more frequently higher up the food chain with Hendrix fairly middling a near post shot which left Styles grasping at the suburban air. Cockfosters evening was typified soon after with a powerful daisy cutter being struck straight at Mendes De Brito and a cross shot from Allen bouncing off the top of the bar. Unfortunately, it was simply not the home teams evening.

For me, Mark Blackburne has never been a striker, he looks much more comfortable at right back. Looks like the proof was in the pudding on Tuesday night. Nevertheless, a lesson learnt for the management. Think they were a bit over-confident with their early success, shuffling the pack to lower teams like London Tigers isn't always a great idea.

Big Dawg, what happened at Kings Langley? I fancied your lot to win comfortably.

I missed the game with food poisoning but by all accounts it was quite the even game and could've gone either way.

Profligate striking and a sucker punch 8mins from time looks to have cost us again.

Leigh Rose has started the season brightly but I still think we need another clinical striker before we start killing off games.

On to the weekend, FA Cup magic and all that jazz . . .

To be honest we did not create that much after the opening 5 minutes. Either Kings Langley did their homework and handled us very well or it just did not happen for us....not sure which, but either way KL did a good job.
