CHESHAM UNITED RESERVES 1-2 BALDOCK TOWN

Not sure where Chesham got the attendance figure of 84 from unless they count the players as well as I doubt there were more than 50 in the ground. Anyway, the visitors’ FA Cup success on Saturday ensured a first visit of the season to Amy Lane who’s pitch still resembles a bowling green.

An excellent first half from Baldock who went in two up with the second a scorcher which the keeper completely misjudged. Chesham were a bit brighter in the second half and did pull one back but it wasn’t enough to stop the visitors exacting revenge for last season’s home defeat.

No hot food at CUR games again this season – the pie/sausage roll warmer in the corner of the bar lay unplugged and unloved. I would’ve preferred Five Live in the clubhouse to the latest offerings from CHAV-FM, but that was probably for the convenience of the sour-faced chav in the grey hoodie who may be CUR’s answer to HyperAngus.

Nothing like actually being there though!

Was Micky Hazard in attendance

I guess Hazard must be the highest profile Manager/Coach/Player involved with the SSML since Clement Temile mustn't he

Boswell - Yes, I've put that sign up on the door! Seriously though it's really good to have such high profile individuals as Hazard, Temile, Tony Galvin and Kevin Gallen for example involved with the SSML

Not the best start for Mr. Hazard.

At least it can't be any worse than when Geoff O'Vell was at the Club

The start of last season seems a long time ago now!

I'm sure a man of your great resource will be able let us know how Geoff started last year?

I didn't know GOV was on your hit list? Is this a new addition?

FA CHALLENGE CUP Extra Preliminary Round

A-A St Margaretsbury v Halstead Town (Floodlight Failure)

From the Hoddesdon & Broxbourne Mercury, giving raffle tickets to everybody at the abandoned game isn't much of a consolation really is it:

I remember being at a midweek fixture at St Margaretsbury when the floodlights went out very close to kick off time.

On that occasion it was an electrical problem in the area and not restricted to the Club.

We are only a small village so they cut as off every now and then to feed the bigger towns. :bigcry:

Most 'normal' will assume that the raffle ticket will ensure free entry to the re-scheduled fixture.

Whitley Bay - Yes, that's no doubt the case but what if the individual isn't able to attend on Tuesday, I see from another Forum (see below) that some so called groundhoppers were present:

Wednesday 19 August 2014 - FA Cup Extra preliminary Round (Replay)
St Margaretsbury (red & black/black) A-A Halstead Town (blue & white)
Abandoned at half-time, floodlight failure
New Ground: very difficult to find, roadworks everywhere with roads blocked
Pitch: hard, rough grass, well cut and well presented - Weather: fine evening

Spent the morning at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust at Cley Marshes watching the birdies, then proceeded towards home via St Margaretsbury. Halfway through the first-half the referee called for the floodlights to be switched on. First just one side came on and then half on the other side, leaving a large area in the middle in darkness. The referee continued until half-time, but failed to restart the second-half.
[During the interval my dear Runwell suggested handing out a bag of carrots, but surely it would have been better supplying fork handles]

Also at this. Do you ever get the feeling It's not going to be your season? That's the 2nd floodlight failure in two weeks. Never mind, worse things happen at sea, and I've still got my good looks and health. The only thing I remembered about this ground was it was hard to find, but easy enough with that little machine we have these days. Obviously satnavs are more accurate than the info given to us by Mr Williams in the olden days. Nice ground, nice people, a good yarn with Runwell and it didn't cost me anything to get there.
