News from Dorking FC and Meadowbank!

Recommended Posts

Groundshare agreement has been reached for DFC and DFC Under 18's to play at the New Defence ground, Horley next season.

I understand Horley were not happy in entertaining Dorking Ladies as well, but I hear they have a contingency plan in place.

They had their end of season awards ceremony last Saturday where I'm sure the matter would have been discussed.

Conratulations to my eldest Grand-Daughter who was awarded the 'Managers Player Of The Year'  award.   (Thanks Mick !)

Dorking ladies wasnt discussed.

But if it was we couldn't of had 5 teams on one pitch.

And I guess it would then be logical for both sides to share Meadowbank with an artificial surface, given the article above about Wanderers looking to relocate. However that may then lead to the question of why have 2 teams. Interesting times ahead...

On giving this matter some serious thought, I cannot see too many major problems with both clubs using Meadowbank, ASSUMING an all weather surface IS on the cards.

Wanderers would continue to use their Westhumble facilities for their youth sides, AND I assume for their training.  I suppose it is possible that in the 2015/2016 season, they might have to remain in the Sussex League, so in that case there would have to be close co-operation between the Leage match fixture secretaries.

Dorking Ladies would probably continue to train in Dorking on a Thursday evening as before and as their League matches are scheduled for a pm Sunday kick-off, they would not pose any fixture problems.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see how much money is available and to what use it must be used.  I have heard a 'ball park figure'  mentioned which is substantial - HOWEVER the amount of work that needs to be done to the ground is substantial as well !!

Why the delay till 15/16? If they do not have big plans for Meadowbank,as a Community facility. If this was not the case, how hard would it be for Temporary repairs to enable Dorking F.C. to return immediately before the 14/15 season starts.Womens Football needs to be included in their plans, else it would not be a true Community facility. Are the new owners not holding an Open meeting to inform Supporters/Residents of their plans,as these will be the people that,in the long term, help sustain the Club.

Major work will be starting at Meadowbank very soon, a couple of things have been done already.

There is so much to do that planning to start the season at Meadowbank would have been overly ambitious.

For example, the changing rooms could have been temporarily fixed last season to allow games, but in honesty they are so far gone and old anyway, its better to knock them down and put in new.

I think the decision was made to bite the bullet, and groundshare for a year even if Meadowbank can be made ready during next season.

I know the league needed to be confident Dorking FC could fulfil its fixtures without multi ground use.

There will be meetings with existing and new  volunteers, and meetings and announcements for the wider Dorking community.

Im looking forward to hearing more, and to welcoming old and new friends back to Meadowbank as soon as possible.

Just to be clear I am not part of the consortium or on the board of the new community company, so Im not an official spokesman and Im not witholding info.

I do hope to be involved in some capacity and will be happy to share info on here when its available.

There have been a few interviews on BBC Surrey radio you might be able to find.

Good old Lunny. Never forget the FA Cup goal he scored at the Deva Stadium. Sadly no one saw it and alI we remember is him running out of the fog celebrating the goal which took the lead against then 4th division Chester City.

How things have changed.

That website is a nightmare.

Confusing statement,

We would be o.k in the Premier, but are aiming for a mid table position in Div 1?

I quite agree about the site, Peter.  I think Steve is quoting the new owners policy statement.
