Reserve division 1 - up in the air!

It's fair simply that by having the record expunged then all other clubs have no record against the expunged club.

So why is it fair that clubs are being awarding 3 points for every postponed London Lions game? Wouldn't it be fair simpler, and fairer that their record was removed as well. Roughly same amount of games.

The whole Stotfold and London Lions scenario is very sad for the league and more importantly the clubs involved. It is easy for clubs to pull out of leagues and not fulfil fixtures but little thought is given to the other clubs this effects. Points added and points taken offer nothing. However, a heavy fine system and a ban on clubs entering the league in future seasons would be a good deterrent.

The saddest aspect of all of this however is that both clubs had good reputations and were very well run clubs, what on earth has happened internally for this to happen?

I think everyone can see your point however the situations are not the same. However, Surely based on the number of postponements the option within the rules to remove the team from the competition should be considered.

Agreed, the situations are not the same. But you can't have a team in a league that has postponed so many matches. It effects too many  clubs. It seems there are a fair few people on here that agree with that as well.

It is sad for the league and as I have previously said, London Lions, for the last few seasons they have been in the SSMFL, have done well and we have never had any issues with them. I also know Stotfold would not have dropped out of the league without much consideration.

As im involved with the reserve set up at St.Margaretsbury im gutted that we have had 6 points deducted. Im not the only one at the club thats happy about the outcome but we must accept the Leagues decision in this matter and get on with it. No relegation from res div 1 this season.

Is there not a ruling that if a club has played more than 75% of their fixtures, their results stand and points awarded to the teams that have not played them.Or does this apply to other levels.

Quite common in local football, but not in SSMFL handbook, which I imagine is fairly generic across step 5/6 leagues.

PierMario/ABC/WoodenSpoon,

You make some excellent points in this debate but I don't think any of this is now going to affect who wins the league. Congratulations to you guys at St Mags, best team over the course of the season and thoroughly deserved too.

No relegation? How come?

Near the beginning of this debate some said, 3 divisions and only play on Saturdays and no midweek games. This seems the best idea so that clubs get enough games but are not overloaded. They will be the reserve cup and also the country cup to play and the season should start in September and end before the end of April. It all costs money so we have to be pragmatic. I even believe that 22 teams in the premier division is too much.

Back in 2001-2 season there was 3 reserve divisions.

With Stotfold dropping out, no need for anyone to go down. That leaves 14 teams left, promote 2 from res div 2 and we have a nice even number. We may have new clubs joining the league with their res sides going into div 2. Only an opinion.
